Silk Way Rally ran along the M-4 Don Highway
The first part of the eighth edition of the Silk Way Rally was held in Russia from July 21 to July 27, 2018. The route passed along M-4 Don highway. Upon completion of the seventh lap of the race, rally participants went from the Tula region to Moscow and stopped at the 249th km of the M-4 Don federal highway where a multifunction zone for roadside services (MFZ) Mgrillcafe will be opened in August.
All along the M-4 route participants were accompanied by UTS traffic safety inspectors.
«On behalf of the organizers of the race I would like to note safe and comfortable conditions on the M-4 Don federal highway, which is especially important for our large-scale event attended in 2018 by the best teams in the world from 24 countries. Taking into account escort cars and press vehicles providing race coverage in 196 countries, the total quantity of vehicles involved in the rally exceeded 325. An opportunity to quickly use all the services of the modern MFZ (a restaurant, safe parking lot, free Wi-Fi, 24/7 self-service desk for quick lunches and other modern 24/7 services) is important for athletes and rally participants», said Security Director of the race Victor Sokolov during the stop.
The international rally marathon «Silk Way» is a sporting event of the highest category of complexity. The first rally took place in September, 2009 on the territory of Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan at the initiative of the three countries' presidents and with their personal participation at the awards ceremonies.
