On November 27, 2019 during the launch of M11 highway section from Tosno to Saint Petersburg the President of Russia Vladimir Putin announced the result of people’s voting for the highway name. Now it is called “Neva”.
Starting from June 2019 Russian citizens vigorously suggested the names for the highway M11 “Moscow – St. Petersburg”. The main requirements were: the name should consist of one word and contain a geographical denomination relating to the route. By August more than 200 suggestions had been received and since September the citizens could vote for one of the three best names: “Valdai”, “Two capitals” or “Neva”.
