UTS encourages drivers to be an example for children while driving

Toll roads operator UTS together with the information portal for parents "MEL" announce the start of the safety campaign "I am an example for my child". The goal of the social project is to draw the attention of drivers to the fact that children copy their demeanor, including their driving style.

Indeed, in 2020, UTS internal statistics revealed that on the 1,024 km of toll roads operated by the company, road accidents occurred almost every day. Of the 366 days in 2020, incidents occurred on the toll sections of M3 for 206 days, on the M11 - 350 days, and on the M4 - 356 days.

The most common cause of accidents was a car collision due to an incorrectly selected speed or when changing lanes to another lane. In second place - hitting the vehicle in front.

The worst thing is that in about 40% of accidents, children of small and school age were in cars.

The largest number of accidents in 2020 occurred on all roads in August and December, usually on Friday or Saturday around lunchtime. In particular, on M4 the most “emergency” month was August, the “emergency” day of the week was Saturday, and the “emergency” time was 13.00. The data on the M11 are very similar (August, about 14.00), but the day of the week differs - the largest number of accidents occurred on Fridays. On M3, most accidents occurred in December, on Fridays, but in the morning - at about 9.30 am.

The most common cause of an accident was a car collision due to an incorrectly selected speed or when changing lanes to another lane. In second place - hitting the vehicle in front.

The worst thing is that in about 40% of accidents, children of small and school age were in cars.

“Despite the fact that compared to 2019, the number of road accidents in 2020 decreased by 35%, in many cases there were children in the car at the time of the accident. When we are with a child in a car, we must not only be extremely careful about his safety, but also realize that by our behavior we are setting an example for a small passenger. Often, if a parent periodically violates traffic rules or behaves aggressively while driving, then his children adopt such habits, considering them the norm. Then the rules are violated by grown-up children, children of children and so on. Therefore, in order to change this vicious circle, you need to start with yourself and your own family,” said Oleg Trofimov, UTS First Deputy General Director.

In order to address this paramount issue and to remind drivers on the importance and need of compliance with the safety rules while driving, UTS together with the MEL information portal installed special posters that can be found in all points of sales on M3 Ukraine, M4 Don and M11 Neva highways. The slogans on the posters are very simple, but they remind drivers that they are the most important role model for their children: “I am an example for my child - I always fasten a seat belt, and you?”; “I am an example for my child - I observe the speed limit, and you? "; "I am an example for my child - I do not occupy the left lane with a free right one, and you? "

Special warnings are also displayed on the variable message signs along the roads, operated by UTS.

Finally, UTS reminds you that all drivers are to follow the traffic regulations and in case of any contingent situation, to call on the free emergency number: * 2033 – on the M3, * 2044 – on the M4 and * 2011 – on the M11.

The safety campaign "I am an example for my child" is a part of UTS general safety policy aims to change drivers’ behavior and to reduce the amount of traffic incidents. Since 2019 UTS has already organized 5 safety campaigns. Partly thanks to such information campaigns, the safety on the operated roads in 2020 increased by 35%
